Current Favourite: New Look Ankle Boots

It's become clear that 2015 for me is the year of the impulse buying.  A couple of weeks back I popped into my local New Look 'just for a look'. But obviously we all know that just for a look never means just for a look so about 30 minutes later I was leaving with bags full of clothes, shoes and underwear along with a slightly battered bank balance.

But... I am so glad I went in because I have fallen in love with a pair of boots.

(My camera quality doesn't do them any justice, check them out in store or online at the link above)

These Chelsea style boots are in a gorgeous tan colour with a chunky 3.5" heel. I will admit, it took 2/3 wears for my feet to get used to them and they hurt sooo much at first but I persevered and now they are really comfy and super easy to walk in. For the price I am totally impressed with the quality but that's not surprising as I'm always impressed with New Look's shoes - it's my go to shop whenever I'm on a shoe hunt. The best thing about these boots? They go with everything. I have been wearing them with denim jeans, black jeans, tailored trousers, patterned dresses and skirts paired with tights, you name it! I would highly recommend that if you don't have a pair heeled ankle boots in your shoe collection then check these out.

These are also available in black which is very, very tempting... I may have another new pair of ankle boots to add to my shoe cupboard in the near future!

Fashion on YouTube

I love watching a good lookbook and fashion haul on Youtube. If you're not familiar with the whole 'youtuber' thing then a lookbook is basically when someone puts a mixture of different looks together and they normally have a theme; for example, seasonal lookbooks or casual/workout/going out lookbooks. I love watching them as it's a great way of getting some outfit inspiration! And a haul is where they will show you the fashion bits they've been buying recently and do a mini review on it - describing the quality, fit, what they would pair it with etc...

So today I'm going to share with you some of the youtubers whose hauls and lookbook's I love.

These are just some of the youtubers whose style I am really enjoying at the moment but there are many, many more. I love to see other peoples take on fashion and it's always great to see clothes on real people. And for the curvier ladies out there Louise @ sprinkleofglitter does great lookbooks and she always, always look amazing!!

Urban Decay Makeover Review

Caron Keane a top make up artist for Urban Decay has been travelling through the UK in last few weeks doing an Urban Decay Roadshow. I booked up with two of my girl friends and we got a chance to have a make over and test out some products we hadn't used before and learn some new tips for applying our make up.

Okay so, I often struggle with an oily T-Zone which is the bane of my life and makes my foundation separate on my face and generally just make my face make up look pretty gross. So after explaining this the first thing Caron applied to my face was the De-Slick Setting Spray for oil control. I knew this was used for setting make up once applied but had no idea it could be used on the skin before make up to act like a primer. The setting spray was applied again after make up application was complete and I have to say, I am SO impressed with this product. I had my make up on for over 8 hours and by the time I came to take it off there was no shine, my skin didn't feel or look oily and my foundation hasn't separated! I purchased this product after my make over today and I definitely do not regret it - I cannot wait to continue using it.

Next it was on to foundation, concealer and powder. I didn't purchase any of these products as I wanted to see how the wore first. The foundation used was Naked Skin in the shade 3.0 and the Naked concealer was in the shade fair neutral. I absolutely loved the feel of both of these products - it literally felt like nothing on my skin as opposed to some foundations and concealers which can feel super heavy and cakey. There was definitely good coverage with both products and the concealer was really highlighting under the eyes. It generally lasted on my face well throughout the day though I did feel that very quickly, as in within an hour or so, there was a lot of gathering around my nose and in my laugh lines which doesn't normally happen to me with foundation so I'm not sure I'll be rushing to buy it any time soon. The base was all set with the De-Slick Mattifying Powder, which again was totally weightless on the skin and completely minimised the appearance of my pores - another product I was impressed with.

Next up was brows. I explained to Caron that I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. She then showed me a duo which could be used together to create the same effect as the dipbrow. One of these products was Ozone Lip Pencil. Yup, a lip pencil!! It acted like a clear brow wax and could also be used as an eraser to clean up any mistakes made. She used it along with the eyeshadow 'Faint' from the Naked Basics palette. It was effective and I was impressed with the finish but I've only recently discovered my love for the dipbrow and I really, really love it so I'm happy sticking with that for now.

My eyeshadow was done used the Naked 2 palette. The base was a mixture of Foxy and Bootycall which was used to help the other colours blend nicely. Tease was used in the crease with a little bit of Chopper brought through it. Blackout was then used on the outer V and also as an eyeliner on the top and bottom lash line. I have all three of the Naked palettes and would recommend every single one. A beautiful selection of colours across the palettes with a creamy, buttery texture and a fab mix of highly pigmented shimmery and matte shadows!

Mascara Resurrection was used to help separate my lashes and avoid clumping when applying another top of mascara on top of the mascara I already had on. A handy product and worthwhile purchase if you like to touch up mascara but it's not something I tend to do and therefore I'm not in any hurry to add this to my collection.

A natural contour and blush was created using the Naked Flushed palette in 'Native'. I loved this product so much! It has a contour shade, a blush and a highlight. The all complemented each other so well and I was really impressed with the overall finish and it lasted well on the skin - will definitely be purchasing this in the near future!

Finally, the 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Naked was used for lining the lips (I was given a free mini samples of this, yay!) and then one of the newly released Sheer Revolution Lipsticks were used to colour the lips. She used the colour Rapture and I couldn't help myself and had to purchase it because I fell in love with it! Such a creamy, moisturising product perfect for a sheer wash of colour on the lips - very wearable.

It was such a great little pamper session and I enjoyed learning some new make up tips and ways to use products which I normally wouldn't have even so much as thought of - the lip liner on my eyebrows for example!! If you ever get a chance to head to one of the little pamper sessions I would definitely recommend it.

Jewellery: The Silver Edit

No outfit is ever quite right without accessorising with a little bit of jewellery. Currently my favourite colour to wear with almost every outfit is silver and I'm lucky enough to have been gifted with some of the most beautiful silver jewellery over the years. In my opinion, silver jewellery is the most classic and delicate looking when it comes to jewellery; I would choose it over gold any day. I have picked a few of my favourites to share with you today.

And finally, my watch that I am beyond in love with...

Is animal testing okay?

I have a bit of a different post for you all today... on animal testing in cosmetics.

I am completely against animal cruelty and that includes the unnecessary way cosmetic companies are testing our beloved mascaras, lipsticks, skincare and bath products on animals. However, companies are constantly changing their cruelty free status and some companies claim to be cruelty free as they don't test their final product on animals but the ingredients used in the products have been tested on animals. This can be very misleading and hard to keep up with unless indepth research has been carried out - which really just isn't convenient and let's face it, not many of us can be bothered doing the research, myself included! For all of us living in the UK we're somewhat lucky in terms of not necessarily needing to carry out our research as it is against the law to sell cosmetics which were tested on animals in Europe BUT this does not mean the company does not test and sell their products outside of Europe.

Some major companies who own several of our favourite make-up and skin care brands and some other cosmetic companies that test on animals include:

L'oreal
Proctor and Gamble
Benefit Cosmetics
Estee Lauder

(a full list of companies and brands who test on animals can be found on PETA's website by clicking here)

I feel that animal testing in the cosmetic world is something which has to stop. It is a completely unnecessary practice which clearly does not have to be done to create and produce cosmetics - we know this as there are several companies who have demonstrated this successfully. One of which is LUSH cosmetics.

LUSH cosmetics pride themselves on selling products, including bath products, shampoo, skincare and make up, which are organic and completely animal cruelty free. I really do believe this is a great selling point as LUSH products can often be on the pricey side but knowing you're not using any harsh chemicals or artificial fragrance on your skin and being confident that it was not tested on animals is definitely a plus side to the products and makes it worth the price.

I always make sure that my LUSH collection is fully stocked for whenever I fancy a relaxing bath - here are some of he goodies I've currently got in my stash!

The Perfect Red

The infamous Ruby Woo by MAC is loved by many and I have to say - I love it too. I've been using Ruby Woo for well over a year now and it is the truest and most perfect red lipstick I have came across.

First post!

Hello, and welcome to my blog!

My name is Sara and I am 19 years old. I currently study marketing at City of Glasgow College and part of my coursework requires me to create and maintain a blog about a chosen topic... I chose fashion! When I leave college I hope to go to university to continue my studies and ultimately would love a marketing related job in the fashion world.

I've always wanted to have my own little blog as I can spend hours reading through several fashion and beauty related blogs and so I'm excited that I've finally been given the push to get one up and running. I will mostly be posting about fashion though I may throw a few other bits in from time to time :)

It'll be a bit rusty until I get used to what I'm doing so please bare with me and I do hope you enjoy reading it. Have a nice day!
